Handwriting is no longer as prestigious as it used to be. Once a reserve of royal families, it is slowly but surely being rendered obsolete with the advancement of technology.
No longer seen as a status symbol, it has slowly lost its allure. With the advent of technology, people would much rather type away at the keyboard than write by hand.
This day was invented in 1977 by the Writing Instrument Manufacturer’s Association (WIMA) as a way to revive the art of handwriting.
Happy Handwriting Day.
Today your characters will get a chance to swap the keyboard for classic penmanship as they practice some handwriting.
23rd January Writing Prompts

In honor of Handwriting Day, write an original story involving the following scenarios.
- A medieval scribe enrolls in a penmanship school.
- Your character is a royal who illegally trains slaves to write properly.
- A solar flare obstructs communication technology worldwide, forcing everyone to return to handwriting.
- The character in your story is the only human being left that practices the art of handwriting.
- Your character is forced to use their non-dominant hand in the finals of a handwriting competition.
Remember to use the tag ‘dailywitheli’ so that I can add your story to my word prompt hall of fame. You do not have to attempt all of the prompts. However, if and when inspiration strikes, do follow the muse.
For today’s prompt, we are tackling Flash Fiction. This is a story with 751 to 1500 words. Therefore, as always, try your best to stick within the confines of the word count.
Take time to stretch, walk, grab a drink of water and spend some time refining your handwriting.
All in all, have fun with today’s writing prompts.
Until tomorrow,
.
