Rancher’s Refuge by Linda Goodnight – Book Review

Rancher Austin Blackwell knows a wounded creature when he sees one. Although Annalisa Keller won’t reveal how she ended up stranded in Whisper Falls, his conscience refuses to let her leave.

The little Ozarks town could be the perfect place for her to start over- just as it was for him. Trying to keep his own past hidden, Austin finds himself falling for the vulnerable beauty with too many secrets.

Before long, Annalisa’s warmth and love of life work their way into Austin’s heart… and promise never to leave.

Disclaimer: The evaluation contains spoilers

The only other time I saw a perfectly executed male love interest was in Santa Montefiore’s The Butterfly Box. That is until now. Linda has definitely honed in on her character development. Austin was such a swoon-worthy love interest from beginning to end.

That said…

The story was wholesome and classically romantic with its textbook cowboy and city girl roles filled perfectly. The small town felt homely and the townsfolk brightened an otherwise weighty theme that was handled in bite-sized emotionally satisfying ways.

The character arcs were gradual and organic, with a love story that developed with such rich believable growth. Each chapter held just the right amount of detail to keep you flipping pages and the end was not only happy but satisfying.

I just wished I would have seen a happy ending for Cassie and the mayor as well, but perhaps that will be handled in another Whispering Falls book? I hope so…

Recommendation and Rating

I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a wholesome romance story with a touch of inspiration.
