Video Game – Daily Writing prompts

William Higinbotham invented the first video game in 1958. The ping-pong-like game called Tennis for Two debuted at the Brookhaven National Laboratory on a large analog computer.

Fast forward to 2022 and we’ve replaced Tennis for Two with virtual reality and scaring the shit out of our pets. Pac-man, Super Mario Bros, Tetris, SimCity, all these, and more are a testament to the enduring love for the immersive world of games.

Happy National Video Game Day

Today we unite with video game lovers all over the world to toast the true gifts of video games, procrastination, and sore thumbs. Time to transport our characters from paper into pixels.

In honor of National Video Game Day, write an original story involving any of the following scenarios.

  1. Your video game console becomes sentient and starts to control your character’s life.
  2. You’ve discovered a game that allows people to swap their reality with the simulated version of themselves.
  3. The characters from your video game escape your console and wreak havoc on the real world.

Use the tag ‘dailywitheli’ when you’re done so that I can add your story to my word prompt hall of fame. You do not have to attempt all of the prompts. However, if and when inspiration strikes, do follow the muse.

For today’s prompt, we are tackling Short Stories. This is a story that is between 1501 and 7000 words. Therefore try your best to stick within the confines of the word count.

Don’t worry if you get stuck. Simply take a walk, grab a drink of water and get back into it. This is also the one time when playing video games might actually help with the writing process.

All in all, have fun with today’s writing prompts, and remember, the reason why you can’t blindfold a Pokemon is because it will Pikachu.

Until tomorrow,

Eli
